how do you save?
today i woke up and decided to make pancakes for breakfast. i went to the pantry and , o darn, we are out of pancake mix. then i thought, well why do i need a pre mix to make pancakes? i will just make them from scratch. so i pulled out my cookbook and started to make. then i got to the baking powder part. o darn, im out of baking powder. well i remembered that i had read somewhere you can make your own. (ya, no joke. you can! :) so i ran to the computer and found it... 1/4 C. cream of tarter, 2 tbls. baking soda. they turned out to be some of the best pancakes! ya, it took me a little longer, but worth it. i dont think i will by pancake mix again! later i was making my shopping list of a few things i needed. tortillas being on the list. then i thought again, i could make them! so i whipped out an old relief society cookbook my mother-in-law had given me and sure enough i found a recipe (and it was my sister-in-laws). it was so easy. i am trying to be a little more self sufficient and trying to find more little ways i can save money. making little things like tortillas, salad dressing, cake frosting, baking powder are a few things i figured out i could do. when the weather gets a little cooler i would like to master homemade bread. i just cant get it for some dang reason!? i also try to save a little by not letting my gas tank get past half. it is suppose to help with mileage. i turn up our thermostat at night. (80 deg. to be exact. i am crazy!) i am also really cheap when it comes to name brand vs. store brand. i always will by the store brand when it comes to household items and food. (except yogurt and mac and cheese) i personally think its a waste to by the WAY more expensive brands if you are just going to wipe your butt with it and flush it down the toilet! and why buy name brand foods when the store brand has the same ingredients. there are exceptions, yes, but usually no. :) and everyone has their own opinion.
but the point of this post was to find out how you save a buck? what do you do to save? im curious and would love your input, i love saving a buck!:)
flour tortillas
3 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
3/4 c. water
Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add water to make dough. Take handful of dough and roll out on a lightly floured board, as thin as you can. Bake on a lightly greased griddle. Turn to brown.

sun bathers,
the girls were so excited about a princess present! their expressions kill me!
happy birthday addie! we love you so much! you are so smart and make us laugh. i am so proud of you. you amaze me everyday at how bright and sweet you are. i love to cuddle with you when its just you and me at night before bedtime. i love that you love to read books and want to learn. i love your help in the kitchen and that you always want to help with the cooking and the cleaning! you are so creative and are always wanting to "do a craft." you make us so happy and i could not imagine life without you. when i look at your face, i wish i could take you to neverland so you could never grow up. then you would be my little girl forever!
a sad p.s.
I hate to spoil this fun post, but i just heard that the local blogger and loved by all, Stephanie Nielson , (aka Nie Nie) was in a private plane crash with her husband. Pray for her and her sweet family. i am so sad. i am glad they made it.

start the day off with a smile
this morning i woke up to addie asleep and snuggled in on marks side of the bed. mark wasn't there. i figured he was laying with callie on one of the other beds, she was up a lot last night. when i came down the stairs it was quiet. no one to be found. i heard the hose and looked outside.
i had to chuckle. mark was picking weeds and callie, bare bum and all, diaper in her hand, playing in the sprinkler! it made my day.
we all got dressed and headed over to the gym. we got the car washed. then headed over to target to do get some little things we needed, diapers, milk. everyone is taking a nap at the moment. then i am sure there will be more water play in the backyard. bbq for dinner and then watch more olympics tonight.
its our weekend!!!

olympics
when i was growing we always watched the Olympics. it is something i really enjoy. especially women's gymnastics. i am really excited to watch it throughout the week! addie was really interested, and love to mimic what they were doing. she would go up to mark and do the little fake pat hug. it was hilarious to watch her!
GO USA!

i think this will work!
first of all, thank you for all of your kind comments! i love this blogging world, that us gals can connect and share our ideas and thoughts, and learn from one another. its great!
so today i tried the grazing tray. (thank you ashley!) it worked out wonderfully so far. i didnt have very much produce in my fridge, since we have been out of town, but i did find some things that addie likes that she can snack on. here is a list of other foods that are great for the tray. i printed it out and put in on my fridge(like the article suggested). as soon as i put it on the table, she was chowing! and i am loving the idea that i can just leave it on the table, and when she wants a snack or something to eat, she can get it herself and has many options to choose from. and i am not wasting my time and energy making her all these meals that she isnt going to eat! so great! i think this will be a hit.
**have you read this yet? i seriously love this gal! she is so real and insightful (is that a word?) i just admire her so much! i loved this post, it was what i needed. i said amen to everything she said in that post! go over and read it right now! loooove iiiit!
